No wonder Illinois is going broke:

Of course the City can't lease a local vehicle. Taxes, registration fees and vehicle stickers makes it cost prohibitive.

The plates that are on the truck are part of the lease package and it would be a lot of money and red tape to re-plate with an M-plate. Maybe this was lease company was a campaign contributor or just maybe had the best lease deal.

There would be nothing wrong with the CPD having one or more heavy duty pick-up trucks. Think about how many bodies you could pile up in there during a busy weekend.

If I'm not mistaken isn't there an ordinance violation to the effect of even leased vehicles operated in this fine metropolis are subject to registration in said fair city so said city can suck more revenue? I believe the only exemption is rental agency vehicles because they suck the blood, I mean collect the taxes of each renter.

Why do we use dealers outside the city at all? Thought rahms wanted to bring jobs into the city? Guess whoever has the most connections and gives back to the elected like Barbara Bennett did with cps to the tune of over 20 million of our money!

Chicago has been leasing vehicles for a long time. Every once in a while, someone goes to jail. But for the most part its a money grab on the part of the mayors office.
They cut the number of vehicles they purchase, then on another budget line, they lease vehicles and wind up paying more money. Several POs tried once to show the city how to save money on new vehicles, but you guessed it, they were told to shut up or else!

Thomas Paine (1) said “These are the time which try men’s souls” I find that these are very trying times now for all working men and women. We have reached a time when the politicians who have not discharged their fiduciary duty wish to lay the blame for the current financial crisis on those who have supported and contributed to the pension system while they have failed to do their part.
We have a governor of our state who is now using the Bankruptcy possibility and he seems to actually be promoting the idea to evade funding the pensions. Perhaps it is how our Governor as a business man has learned how to deal with financial issues, walk away and leave the workers holding the bag but this is a matter of moral obligation.
If I chose not to pay my mortgage then the bank will take my home, If I fail to pay my property tax then the county will take my home. I meet my financial obligations most citizens do. The city and state have an obligation, they always call it a crisis, and never what it is AN OBLIGATION to the workers and pensioners of our community. Robert Service (2) wrote “a promise made is a debt unpaid” our pensions are a promise made to us and a debt for the city and state. We want, we demand no more but no less from the city and state.
People who have a fiduciary duty are required by law to act in the best interest of the client “When one person does agree to act for another in a fiduciary relationship, the law forbids the fiduciary from acting in any manner adverse or contrary to the interests of the client, or from acting for his own benefit in relation to the subject matter. The client is entitled to the best efforts of the fiduciary on his behalf and the fiduciary must exercise all of the skill, care and diligence at his disposal when acting on behalf of the client. A person acting in a fiduciary capacity is held to a high standard of honesty and full disclosure in regard to the client and must not obtain a personal benefit at the expense of the client “ (3)
Should not our politicians be held legally civil and/or criminally responsible for what they term a crisis? The former and current Mayor and all former and current aldermen/alderwomen should be charged criminally have they not gained from the mess they have made at our expense? Anita and Lisa if you care about political corruption charge the current and former Mayor and alderpersons , have they not gained at our expense? Yes political contribution could be considered graft if the Mayor and alderpersons approved any actions which were against the best financial interest of those they are supposed to protect. What about the parking meters deals, Sky way deal and how many others. What about the failure to properly fund the pensions while spending on many unnecessary things, we all could name a dozen.
Bring those parties into court civil or criminal and you will greatly advance the cause of honest government.

$2500 a month? that truck cost new about $40,000 stripped pick up truck, where does our money go? how about an investigative news team? rahm said when running for election that on the redline project many city residents were used, they why the out of state plates many from Indiana? why are so many cta iron workers making over $200,000 per year working on the CTA (Chicago transit authority) train tracks, all living in Indiana, why are they not required to live in the city you know like the other city workers who make their money from the backs of Chicago taxpayers?

alderman brookins you keep after the police how about you do something to keep money here? like use Chicago dealers for vehicles, and employ residents "give a man a good job watch crime plummet" you live in Indiana no problem you could work there! Oh wait Indiana is state that pays small wages!!

GE Fleet leasing is out of Eden Prairie, MN. And I'm pretty sure they still have CPD, Park District and possibly Streets and Sanitation as a client.

Depending on where/what dealer is used, what upfitting is done (basically how much weight and value is added to the truck is added to the truck) and whether or not the leasing company (GE) has a dealer license in IL, it is very common that vehicles are delivered with out of state plates until the title and licensing is squred away. The other option is to ship the vehicle, which costs additional money.

The city is a tax exempt govenment entity, but if the lessor (GE) does not have a dealer license in the state of the delivery, they basically have to pay all federal and state taxes and the paperwork is a PIA.

In general though, licensing after upfitting can take anywhere from a few weeks to a month, so the MN plates are pretty common.

So basically, it does have MN plates and its pretty common.

That particular truck has been bothering me for a while now. I see it all the time in the parking lot of the 18th district. The only people who use it are the people assigned to foot posts who take it out to drop themselves off on Michigan Avenue. I cannot understand why it has out of state license plates.

Apparently the cop is known to go nuts on that beat on street sweeping day. He ticketed vehicles for street sweeping to occur on the second Wednesday of the month, but it was the third. The other side of the street was the second Tuesday and he hit them hard, too, but at least he had the day right.

One of the people who got ticketed posted his star #. I thought that was unnecessary.

Nice to see you too sweetie.
We get blamed for Saturday and Sunday tickets. I have watched 24 and 20 district PO's go into vapolock because we got to the Street Cleaning first.

I've seen posts here from "cops" that berate us and threaten us with a "long Form" if we even slightly violate a traffic law, all the while they same PO will drive by a Beer Truck in a bike lane.

Reading comprehension is a Key Factor to doing My Job Correctly. and to a degree SCC agreed with me enough to post my comment. I linked and article, didn't out a cops name or badge number. And remained relatively civil.

But you went there. so okay, I'll lower myself to your level for a second.

FYI. The City of Chicago is a taxing body. As such they are EXEMPT from sales tax. It doesn't matter where they buy their vehicles, they don't pay sales tax so that has no effect on their purchase cost. I don't know why they buy from an outfit that is Minnesota based, but taxes are NOT the reason.

They found a place not familiar with City of Chicago non-payment methods. They got the fools to finance the fleet. Now wait for payment. If you are selling to the city and are not a clout company you will sit and wait for your money. That's the first and last time that company sells to the City of Deadbeats
