Dart Gets a Grant
- Cook County Jail could have fewer non-violent offenders in the future.
The MacArthur Foundation announced Wednesday that it's giving the county $150,000 in the form of a planning grant to help achieve the goal.
The Chicago-based foundation is also giving grants to 19 other jurisdictions around the country.
That's the entire article. While we realize the MacArthur Foundation is entitled to grant its largess to any individual or organization it deems worthy, giving cash to a government entity, especially one as crooked as Cook County and to a jail-keeper who pleads his house is "overcrowded" while closing numerous wings of the jail, thereby achieving a political end via mismanagement, is somewhat questionable.

It might be for "the only program of it's kind," that transitions non-violent, "mentally ill" offenders out of jail and onto the streets, into jobs for companies such a Christy Webber Landscaping and Pace.
cBS had a story on it tonight. The inmates that they interviewed didn't appear mentally ill per se, but Dart's definition may extend to those that are "slow."
Dart was quoted as saying he didn't have enough room in the jail to accommodate all the inmates that want to participate in the program. I wonder what he's doing with all the space from the closed-down portions of the jail.

Mismanagement is an art in itself.
Tom Dart is Business man. He has a Chicken Farm. a garden he sells too fine restaurants. He has a laundry he does all the washing of towels and stuff for the downtown Hyatt hotel. I don't think I would stay at a hotel that does its laundry at a dirty jail.Thats sick.
Oh yeah Cook County. Someone is gonna get a new car and an addition somehow.

What the hell are they going to do with 150,000? Half is going to go to MBE, WBE,& DBE participation. The other half will go to a connected firm who won't even preform correctly. My 6 year old would be more responsible with that money. What a waste. L

"Planning grant" for $150,000 worth of fat "reports" in loose-leaf binders that will generate a year's worth of "conferences" and "meetings," then be stacked in a corner and not read by anyone else until they eventually land in the dumpster.
The eyes glaze over just thinking about it...
Maybe rahms could call Obama and since Chicago is Obama hometown and his library is being brought here how about a grant 550 million to first pension fund payments and maybe 5 billion more to Keep funding pension and hire 2-3,000 more coppers? "Change we can believe in!"

There is no Chief of the Cook County Sheriff's Police Department and the First Deputy Chief of Police is a bailiff!
I never knew the jail washed laundry for hotels, i would definitely stay away from those places. Theres a bed bug infestation that travels through laundry in the jail.
