Crime is Still Down!

The Department released some numbers Sunday - we heard the report on the radio, but can't find the article - claiming once again Crime is Down! Nine percent overall was the number they threw out there.

Now we know homicides are up at least three dozen (19% or so). And shootings, well, the less said about the shootings the better (up hundreds). But we also know that coppers have been writing to us for the past month about a number of patterns in their neighborhoods (north and south) involving garage burglaries and a whole bunch of property crime that hasn't been happening in the past. They certainly don't believe crime is down.

Has anyone from the media (or someone with access to Lexis/Nexus or similar) ever taken all of these press releases and added up the percentages to see what it all really means? We've cracked wise about the numbers adding up to some ridiculous total that we're going to end up owing crime to 2016 and beyond, which isn't too difficult to believe if you've read how Rahm projects a budget.

Or is that too difficult for the journalism majors who troll here?

And now it all makes sense. G-A-R-Y (B-E-R-W-Y-N) went to Washington to finds out how they keep the masses from knowing the truth.

"SCC" I'm a bit surprise with you since you have followed the media for sometime now. You keep taking the 'crime numbers' out of context, the media is telling that REPORTED CRIME IS DOWN. If you don't have enough police to respond to calls to take the report after an hour or so, it just doesn't get reported! Ergo less crime. Brilliant strategy.

And yes I know you have said this before also, but, it just needed to be repeated.

Crime is down so low that people have had their houses visited and offenders have actually brought back stolen articles and returned money and stolen phones.

It's like a Christmas miracle every day. God bless Superintendent McCarthy and Mayor Emmanuel.

If a crime doesn't get reported, it doesn't get counted.

With $1,000 deductible on the Homeowner's policies (to keep the cost of insurance down), many burglaries and thefts are not even getting reported.

And the carnage continues in Wrigleyville with late-night strong arm robbery victims arriving in the Masonic ER . In one case they took everything but the victims shorts.

To so hilarious that FOX news commented on how Rahm & Gmac cook the books when it comes to crime reporting.
According to Gmac we are enjoying the 1960's just like Wally and the Beaver did. In fact, I have a fresh apple pie cooling on the open kitchen window sill right now. I just might sleep out on the back porch tonight and enjoy the cool breeze and listen the sound of crickets...

It means the gangbangers are not robbing businesses because they have no females to follow there and assault employees and report the females as the criminals.

Speaking of the Feds and Baltimore didn't those Fed teams greatly decrease the crime in our little burg? And ,oh yeah, the ISP details lowered it even further, right? That's the ticket alright!

The 'overall crime is down' claim is simply because the shear numbers of thefts and burglaries dwarfs the numbers of murders and shootings. Take a look at the numbers and you will see it provides equal weighting to a theft as it does a Murder. Thus, because those thefts are significantly down, it brings the 'overall crime' number down by 9%:
