Aldercreatures Complain?

  • Determined to avoid a City Council rebellion when he’s trying to line up votes for a $588 million property tax hike, Mayor Rahm Emanuel opted to preserve a $66 million-a-year program that allows Chicago aldermen to choose from a menu of neighborhood improvements.

But that’s apparently not enough for some City Council members. They want to know why the Chicago Department of Transportation is behaving like a restaurant by raising the price of “menu” items like street, sidewalk and alley repairs.

With Transportation Commissioner Rebekah Scheinfeld on the hot seat at City Council budget hearings Thursday, Ald. George Cardenas (12th) compared the annual exercise to shopping at Bloomingdale’s.

“You’re afraid of the accessories. If you want to add a little something, that’s going to cost more. When you’re done pricing it out, it’s a suit you can’t afford,” Cardenas said.
How thick are these idiots? Prices go up, it's a fact of life. Or maybe they didn't notice the $600 million property tax hike they're about to approve? or the new garbage fees? Or the raises they seem to have gotten? Or the pensions that are 100% funded while we have to scrounge for promises made a few contracts ago?

We've got some complaints too alder-assholes...you listening?

Oh, God, they've co-opted even more of our language...

Grabber double bacon burger with triple bacon, quintuple extra-large lard-fried alligator fingers with extra Trinidad Scorpion Mutation V peppers, and a 64-ounce Sugary Drink, please.

Let's do it.

He would.

How about "to painstakingly splicing a broken shoelace because you can't afford another pair?"

"Man of the people," he sees himself. As.

25 aldermen to go before we get conversational with the ones remaining on the up-and-coming Grid System.

Works for garbage, ought to work here, too, huh?

Well this is suppose to be a STRONG CITY COUNCIL/WEAK MAYOR government.

Look that up in your old Civics textbooks. This city is not suppose to be a dictatorship, or a kingdom.

If the Aldermen ever got together and really tried they could defeat Rahm's plans.
But they are too greedy for their own pockets and Rahm probably had more blackmail on any one of them than J. Edgar had on the Kennedys.

Time to trim the fat across the boards. Why so many Streets and San employees? Seems most of the work done today on our roads has been privatized.

This stupid menu money will never go. It is evil genius that keeps alderman in line. Let me explain. Menu money is only about 1% of the budget but it is money that the alderman have direct control of and get to sprinkle around their ward. Alderman will do anything to keep this money under their control, including giving control of the other 99% to the Mayor. The thing is if the alderman grew a pair and actually participated in the budget process instead of having the mayor tell them how it will be they could control 100% of the budget not just 1%. Sure there would be yelling and threats from Rahm but he really would be powerless if a majority of the council opposed this stupidity.

No one ever believes me when I say this but it is true: Chicago has a weak mayor, strong council system. The only reason the mayor is so powerful in practice is that the council just gives a ton of power to the mayor instead of keeping it for themselves. For some reason the mayor picks committee chairmanships in the council but there is no rule or ordinance that dictates that. The mayor submits a budget but the council can make any changes to it that they want, but they don't.

Ahh George and others! when you go to a restaurant and look at the "menu" and order most of us "pay" for items ordered out of our own pockets, not using money you never earned, money taxpayers are forced to give you! 50 of "you people!" Cut 40 and watch the savings grow! Aldermen and the rest get full pensions and free health care if they ever retire for life, on the backs of taxpaying residents, and they want more!!

Elected office is not supposed to be a career or a means of improving your financial status. These fuckers wouldn't go to a council meeting if they had to pay cab fair out of their own pocket to get there. Political office has become a golden egg laid by us tax payers to enrich these creeps. And we continue to elect them, pay them, give them benefits and pensions, and then do the same for their heirs.
It's not going to get any better as long as we keep electing our "friends & neighbors" to govern us. Every one of them, and I mean EVERY ONE OF THEM lives off the rest of us.
Government produces nothing, lies about everything, and steals all it has!

They are Non-essential personnel. Aldermen get 1.2 million a year, for their slush fund. Multiplied by 50, that is $60 million. Let's say you have been on the job 20 years, that's $1.2 billion in alderman slush funds in the 20 years you have been on the job. Not counting their salaries, benefits, and other nonsense. We all know the City should have a third as many aldermen as we do based on the number of city councilmen in other cities like New York.

Yet they slash 3,000 officers from the budget and tell those of us that remain to do more with less, making our job more difficult and more dangerous, not to mention police coverage is lessened on the street making life in this city more dangerous for the citizens and increasing response times for people that call the police. If Rahm has trouble with the aldermen, well fuck him anyway but it would be in the city's interest if he did what he is able to reduce their bloated ranks.

Reduce their number. They can do more with less.

Fuck the alderfools...
It's WAAAYYYY past time for them to personally
feel some of Rahm's "Operation Snatch-Back & Throat Cut"
austerity pain.

These collusive, rotting-alive fucks have been swivel-hipping,
juking, stutter-stepping, high-kicking, head-faking and just
flat out shitting up their own backs from the strenuous effort
required to deflect any substantive dialog about THEIR
corrupt asses being bent and forcefully crammed with the
dry and curiously textured football-sized sized suppository
of austerity Rahm is gleefully cramming every-working-
taxpaying-body-else with...

As Great-Gran'daddy used to say:
"There go dat BULLSHIT I told you kids about..."
>Puffed angrily on his pipe then calmed down<

We figure a man who fought in WW1, farmed and weathered
the Great Depression, knew exactly what bullshit was and passed
on the lessons about how to recognize said bullshit to our raptly
attentive little ears...

But back to you alderfools...
There should be no more than 15 or so of you lot...
This city CANNOT survive too many more years of
FIFTY of you THIEVING, SELF-CENTERED PRICKS.

The only good alderfool is one riotously rotting alive
in federal custody where they can no longer inflict corruption and misery
on upright and decent people trying to survive.

That is why the Mayor will never allow the Aldermen to be cut to a standard the rest of the Country lives by. That number would be 17, but the Aldermen would then become more powerful and perhaps grow a pair. With 50, there will always be the weak willed that can be easily controlled.

Because Obama (soon to be Hilary or Biden or ???) voters are increasingly people who do Not earn wages or salaries.

Watch for that xx% of people on government benefits to be even a bigger issue in the next presidential election. Watch for phrases like, INCOME INEQUITY or WEALTH REDISTRIBUTION.

Register and Vote.
