Koschman Lt Quits

  • Lt. Denis Walsh has resigned from the Chicago Police Department one week after interim Supt. John Escalante moved to fire him over his role in the 2011 reinvestigation of David Koschman’s killing — a case that was closed without charges against a nephew of then-Mayor Richard M. Daley.

Walsh’s resignation ends the disciplinary case that Escalante filed against him with the Chicago Police Board, which decides punishments for cops.
So as all the big-wigs escape investigation and retire to nice pensions, the ones left without a chair are looking at a year off with no pay. Seems completely fair.

Since when can you just retire with an open investigation???? That seems completely odd. What if he was in fact proven guilty of misconduct in the investigation.... Then no pension....... However now you say if you catch wind of an investigation coming down the pipe you can just up and put papers in to escape said investigation. Wow. Only in Chicago.

Interesting indeed. It took the feds coming in here and really sniffing around this department to get rid of Andrews, Salemme and now Walsh. Why didn't McCarthy ask for all of their resignations? Was he simply told to 'leave them alone?' If so, by whom?
Yet another disgraceful chapter in our once-proud dept. comes to a shameful close. It just never ends.

Now, here's a question someone in HR can possibly answer: Are all of these stinking rats who are running out of 3510 following the Koschman scandal and subsequent federal investigation/Inspector General recommendations for firing/long suspensions receiving their 'retired' IDs as they leave the building? Technically, since they are all still 'under investigation,' they should not be leaving with a retired ID (or even a retired star) until the investigation has been officially closed.
Will they all receive the 'retired in good standing' letter which allows them to apply for IROCC concealed carry? Can anyone answer that one from HR as well?

Walsh is small fry compared to Dean Andrews and company who all managed to
drop papers and parachute safely into retirement before this flaming shit-plane
punched a big crater in the ground with Walsh handcuffed to the controls.

Serves him right.

Hoping Mrs. Koschman can still get in all these dirty bastards pockets

It is a sad day when a police officer loses his job. At least he will go off with his pension and I would be willing to bet, end up in some type of cherry job. That said, I would also bet there are plenty of people who will defend this entire mess despite the evidence. It seems a lot of people have added " bar fight" into the Illinois Criminal Code under "Justifiable Homicide".

Caught on camera touching and licking a gas station attendent in michigan.
charged with felony which was down graded to misdemeanor, after victim was paid
off and disappeared.

Comes back after 30 suspension and assigned to supervise Detective unit.
where he makes false statements and removes murder files to his home.
Now it takes a few years and Interim Superintendent to request termination.
Guess Mc Jersey was to busy covering up other things to pay attention to the small
details.....

IAD must be afraid of the guy or his juice.
If this was a blue shirt officer, his ass would have been stripped back when Michigan act happen. With a termination.

I have no confidence in city IG office to start with
but this shows why there is no confidence in any investigation

If the accused is connected to city hall or Headquarters, they are untouchable.
If you doubt it just ask why was this goofy guy not fired to begin with, let alone
put in charge of a detective group? Where he then gets caught lying and hiding documents.

But when any officer get a CR they strip and transfer him till he is terminated.
and this is for on duty acts not off duty crap. Selective investigations?

I don't care what the law says. If you slug a guy and he goes down and hits his head on a curb, then the curb killed him, or God killed him, or the laws of physics killed him. But Vanecko didn't kill him. What Vanecko did was worse than that, morally if not technically. What Vanecko did was disgusting. Even if Koschman hadn't died, Vanecko should have gone to jail for hitting a guy he outweighed by 70 or 80 pounds. That was the essential crime, and it should be written up that way in the books.

To all of you saying that Walsh was a nice guy, helped officers, knew his stuff. Stop drinking the coolaid. He is a stone cold jack off that treated people like shit. Sure, he did some superficial good deeds to promote a certain image but it was meaningless bs. Overcompensating for his many flaws. For every cop he took care of there are ten he fucked over. And it's true. He helped out cops, complete scumbags, that should be fired or in prison. How does that make him a good guy? As far as knowledge, he fucked up serious investigations because of his arrogant know it all attitude. Power corrupted Walsh to the point of delusions of grandeur. The only people that support him are the incompetent hacks that he surrounded himself with. Stop stroking his ego he's done already. Good riddance.

Re. SOS and jail time??? Check RC, EH (12 years) and JL (17 years, dumbass left his DNA at the scene by tossing a cig butt in the garage). That was the late nineties, before Finnegan and company!

Not retiring in good standing. No hr218 conceal carry. No free health insurance. No University of Chicago scholarship. The media will hound him if he gets any City, County, or State job. He will have to go to some clout heavy non government position. My bet is maybe one of the clouted University's will hire him so he can get free tuition and medical.

Spankthose and CIrone were complaining that they will now just have to wait a year longer to get promoted. Can you believe the nuts on these two. I first felt sorry for Spankthose but after hearing this but fcuk him too. Him crying about having all those kids and a wife who doesn't work is his problem. Many two income families out there working to make ends meet. He was living high off the hog with all that O.T. and now he is crying future poor. That's it I'm done! No way am I paying for a benefit party no matter what the lieutenants or captain or commander say or threaten. I'm sticking to my morals. You played dirty to get promoted.....then buy your own soap to wash your arse.

Had the pleasure of working with Denis in the early 2000's. Absolutely knew what he was doing and went out of his way to help coppers out. Not "covering" things up, but making sure stuff they did wouldn't put them in the target sites of police haters like Lovey & Lovey. Show me a cop that never made a mistake and I'll show you a liar. Yeah ... Denis screwed up right at the time they were looking for fall guys so he has to take his medicine. But this in no way negates the rest of his career which made me and many others who worked with him, proud to have shared that time with him. Best wishes to you, Denis.

Agree with above. I've never seen anything like I have in the last 10 years on this job with people hating those that step on their dicks, or get promoted, or have a better gig than they do in the Department. It's like some people now take a certain "glee" in seeing other coppers in trouble.
