Well, Fuck You Very Much

  • Perhaps surprisingly, the deadliest jurisdiction is patrolled by the least experienced officers. Seasoned and better-connected officers tend to work the safer neighborhoods on the North, Northwest and Southwest sides. This is the result of an unusual “bidding” system negotiated by the police union in 1980, which allows officers to use their seniority to claim shifts with better hours or in low-crime neighborhoods.

Approached at a police-community meeting, the commander of the 11th, Deputy Chief James Jones, acknowledged that the deployment of the least experienced cops in the most dangerous neighborhood is a problem. “They know how to play video games, they know how to tweet, they know how to Facebook,” he says. “They don’t have any personal skills. They never learned.”
But they just learned a hell of a lot about their supposed "leader," didn't they? Young coppers who don't have any seniority to leave the west side just got kicked in the teeth by their "boss."

We're told this jackass has got the personality of a wooden door and during his previous stint in the 011th District as Tact Lt, he called the entire team a "bunch of savages." Needless to say, he didn't last long in that spot as numbers dropped off, but it didn't stop him from commanding three different Districts.

Fuck up, move up we suppose. This is supposed to be a leader, yet he denigrates the entire District. You think this tool has anyone's back? That he'll support you if a citizen complains? Or if you justifiably shoot a gunman who confronts you in an alley?

Or will he talk shit about you behind your back and to the media? Like now.

I remember being on midnights with a year or two on the job and the LT comes into roll call and starts with "I know that you're all young, and don't know anything and that's why you're on midnights, but...." I honestly don't recall the point of what this "teaching moment" was all about because I was so stunned by his ignorance. I'll respect your stripes any day of the week, but how these people were capable of getting themselves promoted is beyond me. You know what J.J. is good at? Telling the entire City of Chicago that he has no management skills, and that he has no respect for officers.

Well hell, what that fuck, who in the hell would want to work in 011 where all the citizens hate you, you can do your job, still get fucked, and the worst part your probability of getting shot or killed while at work is very high. So why the fuck would any cop with 10 plus years wanna stay there. Plus I tell you what, the officers there who worked 5 or six years have a lot more POLICE skills, than some phone call hack who is scared to be the police who works in 016 for 10 years. Part of the job, get seniority and get the fuck out.

I got an idea, pay coppers more for working in that shit hole, a lot more. Why doesn't he look at the real problem, the citizens shooting each other, oh wait that would put responsibility where the real problem is. Fuck 011.

Personal skills?!?!

Okay dickhead, how about you see what you can do about starting a new class in the academy on how to deal with 011 district woes. It can be like 'verbal judo,' except more compliant with the intricate problems of the ghetto. Afterall, these citizens have had such complex issues plaguing their community that more in-depth training should be required.

'My cousin stole my car six months ago. I wants a report.'
'My babies momma's sister came up to my car and spilled strawberry soda on the hood. On purpose Joe. I wants a report.'
'Lock up my uncle. He won't let me play my PSP even though I'm a grown man.'
'My baby daddy knocked over the table when I told him I needed money to go get my hair done. No, I'm not scared of him, but he need to go to jail.'

I'm so tired of these pussy bosses and these mutant community leaders. Nevermind actually speaking the truth at these meetings and telling these people to stop having six kids with six different daddys. God forbid someone points out the root of the whole problem. Just keep hoping the schools and the police can raise your kids for you. The more dependent you are on the government, the better you fine citizens of 011 will be.

Now, whom needs a link card and government phone? Please folks, only two reports a month on that baby's daddy, or baby's momma, that is telephone harrassing you over the phone that you didn't even pay for.

How bout we address the real problem. Criminals who were never taught how to act. Criminals who were given a pass for all of their minor transgressions. Minor transgressions turn into major transgressions. Criminals growing up with no sense of accountability because the elders in the community protect them and neglect to teach them that there are consequences to their actions. Keep blaming everyone but the culprits that is exactly how we ended up in the place we are today. What a stand up leader we have here. He chooses to blame his troops rather than address the root of the problem. It is quite ironic that of all people he would complain about interpersonal skills because he has none! Wake up 011. This by far, was one of the worst bosses I've worked for in my career along with SL, the little man whom recently was awarded that Northside District that I'm sure he's bound to fuck up the way they did in 003. Two of the worst I've seen in a long time. They chased almost all of the good PO's and Sgt.'s away. Tons of people bid in when Evans was the commander and twice as many left when Jones and his little side kick came to 003. They completely fucked up the District and specifically the Tact Teams. Because of that, the current Commander is in for a world of shit this summer. Anyone downtown see how many people in 003 and 011 got shot two weeks ago? This past weekend? The rise in all index crimes? All of the experienced Officers left because of the way Jones and SL treated their troops. Completely dogged them every minute they could, never appreciative for the hard work they did. Now the Tact teams, 3rd and 1st watch are filled with recruits and two year wonders that have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE about any of the gangs in the district nor how to police them. Doss is the boss (for now) but they have set him up for failure. He is already limited in his abilities but now add all the disgruntled veteran PO's plus the inexperienced new ones, plus the anti-police climate and that is a recipe for disaster. I just hope no Officers get hurt.

The problem with this department is that there is a nearly complete lack of leadership. These jackasses of exempt rank, for the most part, would never cut it in the military where leadership is instilled from day one. The fact that a jackass DC can make a comment like that to a national media outlet like Time speaks volumes. Every jackass with their pet project trying to make a career of their bullshit and sell it to other cities to make a living for themselves would have been better off just learning to be the police in the first place. Sad what this department has to deal with.

Promotional exams every ten years? That leads to political hacks getting ahead and the qualified getting screwed. So called academics and their bullshit theories who have absolutely no clue about the gang culture and lack of humanity in the ghettoes of Chicago are another joke that our exempts latch on to. Pathetic.

If Rahm, the ACLU, the reverends, and the public in general really want to fix what's wrong with this police department, they really should be examining it from the TOP down. 99% of the problems in any organization are due to poor management staff. We definitely have no shortage of unqualified, under qualified, and downright brain dead bosses on this job with zero leadership skills and no balls. Clout and corruption is to blame for it. The DOJ and IPRA need to start looking at what's running this department instead of looking at five year old adjudicated cases and throwing hero officers under the bus.

SCC you have to understand these New style exempts actually think changing start time and being loud intimidate seasoned officers.

Remember the day when if you had a problem with a shit head boss you would invite him to the parking lot to settle the matter.

Now with all the clouted and lovers of other exempts they will generate a case report if a radio is missing or feel threatened if an officer tapes them secretly in roll call.

Give me this ISR,clear this corner, change your start time, can you stop by this clouted office, and my favorite lock up this guy I ORDER YOU!

Just say NO. simple. Do you actually think these exempts want To -FROMS with example of them ordering you to violate people s civil rights or how certain people can make direct call to commander and receive special services.

AND finally scan your TO FROMs and email them to all exempts involved, you see those never get thrown out and become OFFICIAL and can be FOIAed. Put full names and star number etc.

Eventually these suckholes move on to those new officers the article is talking about.

Hey James Jones,

I have 30 years of dedicated service in the CPD.
I started in 11 and learned how to do the job.
moved to 15 then 25 and then to 24.
I have been a FTO, Tactical and back to patrol car.

In the time on this department I have been shot, shot at, stabbed, attacked with a motor vehicle. But the worst is being attacked by my own Department.

having any supervisor make comments like this is another way of throwing
gas on an open flame.

My son is waiting to come on this job and I cannot figure out why?
But he knows he will go into the heart of the crime and face it head on.
Just like myself, my father and my grand father.......

By the way Jones should retire, why because he just brought major discredit
on the Department. Who would follow this piece of horse shit anywhere?

Here is an example of just how much clout Jones has. He was promoted to lieutenant in a very small class without even one day of training. One of the candidates declined the promotion at the last minute and Jones shows up in his dress uniform on graduation day, ready to be promoted. He hadn't been required to attend the pre-service training, and his fellow promotees didn't know who he was, but he took the oath and was sworn in just like the rest of them. You can thank Phil Cline for that.

I think that you will see which way the wind is blowing when union contract talks open up. It seems that the progressives who are now in charge of the city and county want to bring the police department back to the dark ages before there was a police union. I remember those days. The watch commander would change your day off group in the middle of the period, just before you had your two weekends or change your watch in the middle of a period. They could do anything to you and there was nothing you could do. Promotions were for sale ( probably still going on) and detectives could be demoted on a whim. Write the wrong person a traffic citation or arrest the wrong person and you would be transferred out to midnights in some shit location. It seems people forget why unions came along. The progressives are fighting with Rauner over union power in this state, except when it comes to the police. Hypocrites to say the least. Lets include the alderman who want none of this for themselves but seem to think it is fair for the cops.

Jones, on his meritorious career path, made a brief stop at Area Four as a sergeant. Aside from being an arrogant, self-
important, racist, he did not contribute much to the team effort at the Murder Factory. At roll calls he pontificated from on high and was quick to red mark pen detectives' reports that he felt fell far short of the literary skills that he so obviously
possessed. In short order, detectives were working around him, not for him.

In the end he was a bore and a tiring man of no skill or humanity. He was trapped in a morass of insecurity, placed by
merit in a position of supervising men far better than himself.

The idea of paying premium for working nights in fast districts was floated over the years whenever contract talks open up. It never got far and as you can see duty availability goes to everyone, no matter what job you have. Bring this back on the table. There is no reason a police officer who works days or holds an administrative job in a safe location should get the same pay as someone who works nights on the street in a fast district. Many cities allow this form of compensation. The progressives and cop haters are in the process , right now, of re-writing the contract to take away from you as much as they can in the way of job rights. They are for unions for everyone but the police.

I just finished reading that entire *thing* in Time Magazine. I'm dumbfounded.

If a Space Alien just landed and read that piece of crap by this Simone Weichselbaum they would get the impression that it's you guys and gals, the Chicago Police Department, who are committing all the crimes and doing all the killing.

It's nothing but; Police bad 'here', Police wrong 'there'. Police not doing 'this' right, Police not doing 'that' right. And then, a real problem that does exist and has for decades is only mentioned in passing -- CLOUT, aka: Patronage.

And where the hell did all those asshole Professors and their bullshit *Studies* come from? Not one of those life-long coddled Ivory Tower Eggheads has firsthand knowledge of crime or what a cop does. It's all statistics and theories, it's f--king Navel Gazing.
---> Just look at our FedGov and how all of Obama's 'Elite' University Eggheads that he's appointed to his Cabinet, and/or installed as Czars and how THEY'VE fucked up this country. Prime Example; Obamacare -- created by Johnathon Gruber, a Professor at MIT. That asshole couldn't have fucked up America's entire Health System even more if he had tried. <---

But I digress, sorry. Everyone KNOWS who/what is the cause of Chicago's violent crime, and it ain't the Police. It's the goddamn people in the community who are the cause. It is THEY that have to change, period. End.

Same story in our unit - a commander with merit promotions through the career service ranks, right up to captain - followed by a clouted bump to commander.

"And the next step on appeasing the "community" will be to demand FOP eliminate seniority rights for district or watch bidding."

What the no-information media does not tell the low-brain-power public is the reason for watches and districts by seniority why.

Prior to it, you were at the mercy and whim of the department. If a boss took a hard-on to you, he could easily send your 017 residing ass to work in 004. About 25 miles. Each way. Don't like it? F you. Quit.

But if you knew someone or where very friendly with a boss, you could walk to your desk spot.

It was a mechanism to control, punish and reward.

Keeping a cop in an area he is sick and tired of does no one any good. Not the Department and not the citizenry.

I remember when I was "young and inexperienced". It was some of the better work of my career. I learned what to do on each arrest. I had that fire to go out and stop people. I got in some trouble because I was so young and inexperienced but getting in trouble is part of the learning process. Then I got a little more time on and continued to work. The numbers dropped off but the quality got better. The bs arrests dropped off but the good arrests picked up... Still made mistakes, still was learning and still was getting in some trouble.. But not as much as before. Got even more time on and started to get some whiskers. Learned a lot but not it all. Made real good arrests, used my head alot and started to be able to "feel" if people were dirty and knew how I was gonna play it out to catch them. Did that for a while then started slowing down quite a bit. Still like the job, just started to get tired and burnt out of the ghetto police life. Lots of tragedy, lots of death, lots of despair and depression to see everyday. Seeing the same thugs, same ghetto mess and same crap everyday takes a toll. Now I have a chance to slow it down and go to a slower paced district so I do it. I "retire" a little bit and my mind and body is able to start recuperate s little bit from the ghetto policing stressed and pressure. I've earned it. I've sacrificed my mind, body and time to go above and beyond in a hard area that brings no pleasure or accolades from its residents. Now it's time to get my body and mind back to a normal life so my family and I don't have to feel the "pressure" of a job in a bad area. I've done my time, served the ghetto and it took a terrible toll on my mind and body. It's a real thing. Ghetto Burn out is real and it takes s terrible toll. Do your time then pass the torch to the next group of young bucks to take the same road you did. I guess bosses or people who never really worked the ghetto have no clue about any of this...

There is one point that this supervisor nailed; the clouted get to go to easy units. That is a problem because there are people on the job who have over 15 years on and have been babied their whole careers; they are clueless, untrained, and outright incompetent.

Perhaps. But he aint exactly cozy with any Black PO's here (011) either.
Couple weeks ago, he showed up at 10-1, pretty much didn't say shit to anyone. Just kind of stood there with his thumb up his ass. He eventually parted his lips to tell PO's to move their vehilces out of the middle of the street.
I bullshit you not, when this dude shows up at a scene, no one has anything to say to him. No "Hey, how ya doin Boss?", like you'd get in the case of most Commanders. We figure he doesn't give a shit about 011 because he's a Deputy, and only "acting" Commander, til they can find someone else to take it. He knows he's only here for a short. So, he doesn't care.
Said it before and I'll always say it: As an old timer in 011, there simply has never been anyplace else I wanted to be. Ghetto Shit and all.
I could've left for greener pastures many moons ago. But I'm good here.
Generally speaking, we have good white shirts. Backup in 011 has always been unparellelled.
Our comraderie here is pretty good. Escpecially so, considering what I hear about the bitching and moaning that takes places in some of the "better" districts.

Just the fact of working there, officers are exposed to more shit daily than most other districts, so naturally they will have more experience over a wider range of situations.

Well, here's a thought...
Do you honestly think the black Coppers from the 1920's
through the 1970's had an easy time on this job?

Just sayin'...

Grown men with guns who get their rocks off on
mistreating other grown men with guns?

An ignorant-assed, miserable, failure of a human being
makes a bad boss no matter what kind of wrapper he/she/it
comes in.

Jones vs. Bubble-Head for a comparison/contrast.
And of course, neither one would give a "peon"
the air and opportunity to settle differences like
once upon a time.

Why...
Somebody(s) might have to take too severe of an
ass-beating, so none of the chronic offenders is going
to step away from the cover and shielding of rank
because they KNOW Coppers are in quite bad humor
lately with all the shit they're being forced to eat.

However... We do predict a series of violence in the
workplace incidents this summer as the pushing from
on high results in a defensive shove back.

Where in hell do you think all the "pressure"
is going to go?

Just an observation.

Police like a square...
Police like you have no friends.

I am not sure what the above writer is referring to. I came on the job in the late 60's and I have never seen cops fighting supervisors in the parking lot and I have seen some pretty bad supervisors over the years. Just not civilized behavior. I do recall black officers and white officers sitting on opposite sides of the roll call room, but I have never witnessed white supervisors treating only black cops badly, I am not saying it did not happen, but I have never witnessed it. But, I have witnessed, many time, female officers treated badly by white supervisors, captains and commanders and also by a black superintendent in 1983 as I was in his office when he made pretty bad comments. I have also witnessed the racism of black commanders on the south side of the city in the 80's and 90's. It was open and blatant and they did not care. If you were white you were not going to get a break or a good district assignment.

I did not say it made sense, only that the idea has come up a few times and is in fact being used in various cities as incentive for experienced officers to stay in fast districts. That is what a union is for. Tell them how you feel and what you want. This year will be the toughest year in union negotiations since the early 80's. The alderman and liberal politicians will try to strip you of all of your job rights. This is already happening in Springfield and I don't think any Chicago politician has the guts to oppose the liberal groups.

I agree completely. Wouldn't you assume beforehand that you'd be asked about ISR's? Couldn't you predict you'd be asked about the ACLU effect, manpower, allocation of resources? Since you stated you believed the panel report on racism in the department was biased, you could guess you'd be asked to elaborate on that.

But, no; he went to that interview pitifully unprepared. That meandering opening comment about 'doing his own research' was excruciating to watch. He appears uncertain and lacks confidence, which, by extension, makes us look weak and incompetent.

He either needs to do his homework and be better prepared, or he needs an 'official spokesman for the FOP' to make appearances on behalf of the union.

On that subject Kenny hauser Mike lappe any progress on eliminating this gold star theft of pension? Put it to a member vote, its our money or will you vote to give say another 60 million gamble to the daleys nephew crew dv urban realty you know they only lost the full 60 million, but yet were allowed to keep 9 million of coppers money in "finder fees!" have you finally called in the feds to investigate and indict these criminals, and also whoever signed off on this massive fraud? Did you?

" Dean, FOP start going after the brass that attacks it's own department

That will be the day. Didn't read the previous post, he's going after Officers on Duty Disability. Good to see he has his priorities in order.

"Paint all west side coppers with a broad brush. All sorts of good police work gets done there on a daily basis. I suspect you didn't even work a west side district, because if you did, you wouldn't have made such an uninformed statement.
Just the fact of working there, officers are exposed to more shit daily than most other districts, so naturally they will have more experience over a wider range of situations."

As opposed to staying on a one rock pinch for 1/2 the tour, go to lunch, Then grab a weed pinch for the other 1/2 of your tour. You're right good work is done by the Supervisors that have to hold your hand at a Baby Momma Drama because You can't a make a decision and the Dicks because you can't secure a crime scene properly.
You're no better than Officers working anywhere else.Been there done that.
I left because I got tired of nonsense, and Strokes like you.

If you leave after 16 years of service do you still get a pension? Thinking that may be best for the family unfortunately. I dont see this thing turning around. Two years ago it wasn't even a thought but this has taken a turn for the absurd and while I still love the job I fear I will go to jail for just doing my job.

Yes. You are vested at ten years. You can phone the retirement board and have them crunch the numbers. Most likely, it will not be much more than three or four hundred bucks.

Do the math. Stick and stay and make it pay.

Three or four hundred bucks? Not at all. If you're making 80k per year and you have the age to collect which would be 50, then you would pull down about 32k per year. 16 years would give you 40% pension.

There you go again Sparky, painting everyone with the same broad brush.
I never claimed officers here are better than officers working anywhere else. I was just saying it is busy, and therefore officers learn faster than slower districts.
One last thing, who you trying to bullshit, you left because you're skeert. Enjoy Boystown. 5F.

“They don’t have any personal skills. They never learned.”
JONES you just perfectly described yourself. A do nothing merit hack who knows less about police work than a PPO. In ALL the years I've known and seen you on this job, you are one of the biggest racists to walk the earth . . . oh wait, never mind I sound like you now.

To the officer who started "when I was young and inexperienced" You are right. It is the same with me. Sometimes I feel it's still with me and I have to go back. Strange that I feel I must go back after seeing such horrible things. I have been retired over 20 years and still felel it. Your not alone brother. Stay Strong.

Just saw 'Deano' interviewed on Chicago Tonight with Phil Ponce. I came away thinking I was watching Phil interview someone at the 'kid's table.' Dean kept tripping over, on his way to a thought. Truly painful to watch and awful for the membership. The Mayor, Lightfoot, Ferguson, the shill's on the Task Force, must all be laughing at the ineptitude of the person sitting in the number 1 chair across the table.

4/25/2016 08:12:00 PM

I watched it and I think your wrong. Dean could have done an hour but got what 12 minutes?

But then again you may have others motives for weakening the union? For your own political gain?
